DISCOURSE DEFINITION
An insightful and comprehensive definition of <"discourse,"> courtesy of Sulin Carling, at the University of Chicago. Note the emphasis in this definition on theoretical understandings of discourse, i.e., understandings of the concept according to various theorists and their principal texts. We will turn to this definition throughout our course to take up certain aspects of it, to consider its uses and limitations for us, and to think about what we could adapt from it. We might also consider how it is already "true" for us and/or our discourse practices.
